As our club is oriented toward recognition of underrepresented cultures, as well as issues and modern events occurring in the world, we intent to incorporate aspects of Amnesty International in our club. From this, we will educate our members about these issues and different ways they can get involved and truly make an impact.
Some ideas for General Meetings include, debates, showcasing various cuisines of different cultures, discussing global issues impacting different parts of the world, emphasizing the importance of global awareness and how it can help in everyday life, as well as students’ academic careers.
In addition, we will also have opportunities for members to share their culture or bring in a cultural belonging where they can talk about it to the club, and earn volunteer hours or club points. Moreover, we intend to invite motivational Guest Speakers to speak about their experiences, educating our members about their culture, which will further allow our members to see the world through a new perspective of diversity and inclusion.
We will also be having club-wide discussions where we can have and promote a “safe-zone” where each member is free to speak their mind and opinion, while having understanding and informative discussions where we can all learn from others. By doing so, we can further our members understanding of contemporary events and they relate to today’s society, while breaking down barriers pertaining to speaking about concepts that are typically not spoken or mentioned in today’s society. We will also inform our members about community-based opportunities that would be eligible for points and/or volunteer hours, study-abroad opportunities, academic tips about of how learning and becoming engaged in contemporary events relates to their classes, such as AP Language and Composition, AP World History, AP United States History, and others.
